Do Libraries resources meet accessibility requirements?

Answer

While Purdue Libraries prioritizes the selection of digital resources that are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, we cannot guarantee the accessibility of specific digital materials because they are often created by other institutions or publishers. It is up to the instructor to determine if a resource is accessible or not.

It may be helpful to review accessibility information from a vendor’s website, specifically a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) or Accessibility Compliance Testing (ACT) report for specific details.

Here are some general guidelines:

  • Prioritize providing links to HTML content, when possible, instead of linking directly to/or uploading PDFs
  • Ensure that students know how to request alternative formats if necessary
  • Work directly with the Disability Resource Center (DRC) if you have a student in your course with accommodations
  • Contact accessibility@lib.purdue.edu if you (or your students) experience accessibility issues with a library resource
