Demographic Data Sources

Are there data sources that the libraries have that are available to staff that provide demographic data based on ZIP/ZIP+4 data, and if so, what methods can they be accessed via? I know CLA has BRASS (https://www.cla.purdue.edu/brass/about/index.html) however after being in contact with them, almost all of their sources are only available to students/faculty doing research. I was hoping to find data that wasn’t as restrictive in its licensing.

Answer

We have several resources available to research demographics. I'm listing those below, with a description of what they cover.

SimplyMap (create thematic maps and reports using extensive demographic, business, and marketing data)
US Census (provides statistics for all states and counties, and for cities and towns with a population of 5,000 or more)
World Development Indicators (analysis and visualization tool that contains collection of time series data on a variety of topics)
American Fact Finder (US Census demographics: population, housing, economic, and geographic data)
