Why is my Microsoft Authenticator passkey not working for library resources?
Answer
This type of issue is often caused by a temporary mismatch in your browser’s saved session or sign-in state.
To resolve it, please try the following options:
- Clear your browser’s cache and cookies, then close and reopen the browser before signing in again.
- Try accessing the library resource using a different browser (such as switching from Chrome to Edge or Firefox).
- You can also try using a private/incognito window for a fresh session.
- Cancel the passkey error message window, and click, "Sign in another way." Follow instructions for signing in without using your passkey.
These steps typically resolve passkey or authenticator-related errors by refreshing the sign-in process.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to delete your passkey and add it back again. See the following Microsoft troubleshooting pages for more information:
- Troubleshoot signing in with a passkey
- Deleting your passkey from iOS
- Deleting your passkey from Android
